A specific problem we face in CITER is the multilingual history ontology. It structures history according to various dimensions and the concepts that are contained within, e.g., economy and concepts such as great depression, post-war period, but also second and first world-war. Each of these concepts has a distinct name/label in the various languages. Automatic translation tools can neither recognize not translate such labels, the have to be identified and translated manually! A time and resource consuming task…
Now read the following blog article, which mentions the use of Wikipedia and the in other languages links on the Wikipedia pages. Seeing each WP page as a ontology entity, the language links represent direct translations of such concepts!
The question is now, who will be the first to build a tool (wrapper) that extracts these links from the actual pages and provides a high-quality translation tool?
